"INDIANA JONES and the punch in the gut"

My heart hurts. I have not posted in a while because I've been ridiculously busy. No really, REALLY!. WHAAAAA! I know, but I have been preparing for a move and everything I have been working on (including my own projects) I can not post, so I will try to squeeze in some new pieces more regularly. Now, back to crying in my pillow.

Not too good huh? Shame. Wanted to see it too.

You described it exactly. In the middle of it, my wife and I looked at each other with that same look. I said "Am I really seeing this?"

My wife said, "The one thing he failed to mention were the ground hogs." Though I think drawing the others was painful enough for you.

However out of place those things were, I still enjoyed the movie. I kinda shut off the logic center of my brain and went along for the ride.

DOOOD I DONĀ“T BELIEVE IT,THOSE WERE THE THINGS THAT MADE ME [NOT HATE IT] JUST NOT LIKE IT TOO MUCH.
I would also add the fact that they had too many characters fighting for attention.

You pretty much summed it up except that your drawings make it look more appealing than it really was. Especially the part with the monkeys and the vines...and the swinging...I could not believe I was seeing that.

The best part was Cate Blanchett's gorgeous skin! It freaking GLOWED! More so than the stupid magic psychic skulls even.

If George Lucas 'raped our childhoods' with the STAR WARS prequels what the heck has he done with INDY IV?!! Biggest disappointment is that even Spielberg's genius for original setpiece action couldn't save it. The successive waterfall sequence goes nowhere-it's as dumb as the 'there's always a bigger fish' scene in Episode 1. From the Paramount logo transition on it's a letdown.

3:03 AM
Blogger Scott Tolleson said...

Perfect Shane. There is good news about Indy though. Now you can mix him with your Star Wars figs and it will kinda make sense.

S!

haha,

i actually liked the film even with all its story problems.
i didnt mind the aliens, actually to me it was the next step in storyline in the sense that pretty much all ancient artifacts deal with some sort of visitation from more intelligent beings with super technology etc. whether you call it God or teachers, or aliens.

i know it says steven spielberg directed the film, but i personally feel lucas did by proxy if you look at the content/special effects(blue screen) and style of directing. i think spielberg let lucas have his way and thats why the filmmaking is lame.

HAHA! I still had fun watching it but you hit the nail in the Crystal skull. Especially with E.T.

Brilliant.

2:28 PM

Aw, man. Brutal.
Okay, the film wasn't amazing, but there were some fun moments, and Harrison Ford can still kick some serious ass.

Blogger Jeremy Bernstein said...

Tarzan Jones...that's what it should have been called. That scene is the one I complain mostly about. Really? Shia La Mutt speaks Monkey language and told them to attack the bad guys and not him? Really Steven Spielberg??? Really????

3:20 PM
Blogger Tim Heitz said...

That's brilliant.

I found it in my heart to forgive the "atomic fridge", but didn't have the same compassion for the "tarzan" scene or "phone home".

I think I would probably add "double car fencing match" to my equation.

Blogger Jonathan Coit said...

Dude, screw art. You should become a professional reviewer. Best review I have read or seen, yet. I do agree with other comments regarding the gophers and the green screen in the end. It did have a good some good 50's culteral elements and the chases were pretty decent (besides the monkies)

9:56 AM
Blogger Andrew Murray said...

Yeah, I think Lucas had his way with this one. The stuff that really got to me was the lighting..it just felt so Green screen. 20 years later what do you expect?

10:02 AM
Blogger IZA said...

Hahaha, Nice.

10:23 AM
Blogger Adele K. Thomas said...

come on, its okay Shane...there there. your picture nailed the let downs...what a review! BUT I found I went with the flow and enjoyed what I could...I cracked up with your tree swinging image...my heart sank when I saw that scene...as well as the bad logo transition at the start. I do agree with Brigette, you made it all the more appealing :D AND you need to cover the whole thing with the gophers. I want to give you and your little action figure a big hug! I still will be adding this one to my dvd collection...because it is Indy at the end of the day...and it still was very funny and entertaining.

I felt like lucas and spielberg were slapping me in the face.. and I felt so powerless. I wanted to walk out I was so frustrated. I could rant for days why this movie is like old people farting in my face.. farting and farting.. and i'm just taking it.. until the toots sting my eyes and i'm crying tooty tears. but I'll just sum up my rant with one spoiler/quote.. FROM F-ING --PROFESSOR-- INDIANA F-BOMB F-ING JONES! "where are they going? space?" .. yeah that's right professor.. they're GOING TO SPACE! JEEEEEEZ LAWEEEZ! they set up that crystal skull nonsense.. and treated us like babies. like i couldn't figure out it was an alien skull from the beginning. like i couldn't figure out that the myan painting was of the alien's head.. you had to hold the skull up to it with a dramatic music sting.. .. ugh.. guh.. i was dieing. f-bomb terrible .. f.. sheesh kabeesh. i'm glad some of you enjoyed it.. i was trying to .. i really tried. gah.. guh.. . fricken.. sprayed with bullets until i understood that.. oh.. indiana jones is actually clark kent superman.. he is indestructible.. and i should care less. CARE LESS!!! IF HE FALLS OFF THREE WATER FALLS! because FALLING cannot hurt superman! i joined blogger just to post this comment. whadup shane.

Now Now it was a let down to some degree but mostly due to the fact it was so un keeping with the other 3 but I enjoyed it for the most part. I can definitely relate to most of the broken hearted fans, but for those over the top disgruntled ranters who just want to bitch to act cool and start an angry mob, get a friggan life.
Oh yeah what the hell happened to Mr. Fez himself, Salla?

I think it was good. I'm glad it was fresh and didn't recycle the originals. They tapped nostalgia responsibly while still creating a new Indy for a new generation.

Now. Spider-Man 3. I'm still recovering from.

Sorry you were disappointed, Shane :(

11:40 PM
Blogger Rob Barrett said...

Uhh... what? They didn't recycle the originals?

"Hey, the other movies showed that Indy's scared of snakes -- we haven't done that in this film yet."

"Ok, how about we have Mutt pull Indy out of quicksand... (wait for it) ...with a snake."

With a fucking snake! And not just any snake, but the most docile damn snake in the world!

Hey, Shane, where are you? e-mail me sdoriguzzi@yahoo.com I have news and a really old phone number of yours 'cause I haven't seen you in like three years. Every time I go to my mom's house and see your art on her walls I think to myself, "Man, I have a lot of Greg Hildebrandt books." You know, you still have some really expensive paper I gave you to do one of the paintings on for me. So, do you know any starving artists who would paint the battle scene between the ship and the fort on Pirates for cheap? Here's where you're supposed to say, "Boy, do I owe her. She's the only one who paid in advance! By golly, I'll do it!" Just kidding. I'll just go to my sister's and look at your art on her walls. You can scream into your pillow again. But seriously, if you know anyone as good as you......but there isn't anyone as good as you! Some day I'll let it go but I'm bound and determined to have some of your incredible work on my wall! Okay, I really do have news and I borrowed something from you that I can't give back, so e-mail me. Stacy you-know-who and if you e-mail me I won't even mention the you know what.

Yeah, dude. Exactly. What I don't get is that I'd heard for YEARS from insiders, close to Lucas, that after pitching the story to Ford and Spielberg, they were both ECSTATIC to jump on board. What the hey?? Was the pitch, "Hey, dudes. I've got a get-rich scheme that friggin' rocks!" Gaaa... At least there's always "Dark Knight."
